Hyunkyung Yulia Yun, PhD, MS, MSW

I will join the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at UC San Diego as a tenure-track Assistant Professor on August 1, 2026. I earned my PhD in Health Services Research, with a specialization in health economics, from the Brown University School of Public Health. My research evaluates health policies and care delivery systems affecting older adults, with a focus on Medicare Advantage, long-term care, and quality of care. I apply causal inference methods to claims, assessment, and electronic medical record (EMR) data.
Before pursuing my PhD, I worked at South Korea’s National Health Insurance Service as a fraud investigator and researcher supporting the country’s national long-term care insurance system. My work has been published in leading health policy journals, and I recently received a NIA F99/K00 award to support my research on Medicare Advantage and nursing home EMR data.
